Account settings

Manage your core account information and security.

Profile information

Update your personal details:

Go to Settings

Click your profile icon → Settings

Select Account tab

Navigate to the Account section

Edit information

Update your name, email, or profile picture

Click Save to apply updates

  • Display name
  • Email address (requires verification if changed)

Changing your email requires verifying the new address before it takes effect.

Change password

Update your password for enhanced security:

Navigate to Settings → Account

Enter passwords

  • Current password
  • New password
  • Confirm new password

Password requirements:
  • Minimum 8 characters
  • Mix of letters and numbers recommended
  • Special characters recommended
Use a unique password you don’t use elsewhere, and consider a password manager.

Email preferences

Control email communications from Freiya: Notification emails:

  • ✉️ Usage limit warnings
  • ✉️ Weekly research digest (optional)

Cannot be disabled:
  • Account security alerts

Dark mode

Toggle between light and dark themes:

Find Dark Mode setting

Settings → Appearance → Dark Mode

Choose mode

  • System - Matches your OS setting (default)
  • Light - Always use light theme
  • Dark - Always use dark theme

Quick toggle: You can also toggle dark mode anytime with:
  • Floating button (bottom-right corner)
  • Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd + D
  • Top menu → Theme icon
Dark mode reduces eye strain during late-night research sessions and saves battery on OLED screens.

  3. Enter new card details via Stripe
  4. Save securely

Cancel subscription

Go to Subscription

Settings → Subscription

Choose timing

  • Cancel immediately (rare)
  • Cancel at period end (recommended)

Confirm

Confirm cancellation
What happens:
  • Access continues until period end
  • Auto-downgrade to Free tier
  • Data retained for 30 days
  • Can resubscribe anytime
No refunds for partial billing periods, but you keep access until your paid period ends.

Notification settings

Configure how Freiya notifies you about events.

In-app notifications

Control toast notifications that appear in the app: Notification types:
  • Success messages (paper added, chat saved)
  • Error alerts (limit reached, operation failed)
  • Information (feature tips, updates)
  • Warnings (approaching limits, important changes)
Settings:
  • Enable/disable all notifications
  • Set duration (3s, 5s, 10s)
  • Position (top-right, bottom-center, etc.)
  • Sound on/off

Usage alerts

Get notified when approaching limits:
  • 80% capacity - Warning when nearing limits
  • 100% capacity - Alert when limit reached
  • Monthly reset - Reminder when limits reset
Enable or disable each alert type individually.

Privacy settings

Control your data and privacy.

Data export

Download all your Freiya data:

Account deletion

Permanently delete your account and all data:

Go to Privacy settings

Find Delete Account

Scroll to danger zone

Acknowledge data loss and confirm
Account deletion is PERMANENT! All papers, chats, annotations, and data will be deleted within 30 days. Export your data first if you want to keep anything.

Generate API keys:
  1. Go to Settings → API
  2. Click Create New Key
  3. Name and configure key
  4. Copy key (shown once!)
  5. Use in your applications

Experimental features

Try beta features before general release: Enable beta features:
  1. Go to Settings → Experimental
  2. Toggle features you want to try
  3. Provide feedback on what works/doesn’t

View and manage where you’re signed in: Session information:
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Browser
  • IP address
  • Last active time
  • Location (approximate)
Actions:
  • Revoke individual sessions
  • Logout from all devices

Security

Session security features:
  • Auto-logout after 24h inactivity
  • Secure JWT tokens
  • Token refresh on activity
  • Encrypted storage

Troubleshooting

Try these steps:
  1. Check internet connection
  2. Refresh the page
  3. Clear browser cache
  4. Try a different browser
  5. Contact support if persistent
Verify:
  • New email isn’t already in use
  • Verification email received
  • Clicking verification link
  • Old email still accessible
Check:
  • Browser supports dark mode CSS
  • No conflicting browser extensions
  • Try setting to “Dark” instead of “System”
  • Clear cache and reload
This is handled by Stripe:
  • Verify card details are correct
  • Check card isn’t expired
  • Sufficient funds available
  • Contact your bank if declined
  • Try a different card
